MONTREAL -- Matt Jankowski led all scorers with
a hat trick and five assists, and All-Canadian Luke
LaCava netted four goals as the McGill men's lacrosse team
dumped Toronto 15-6 on Forbes Field, Saturday.
The Redmen led 7-0 after the first quarter, 11-3 at the half and
12-4 after three quarters. McGill played 34 players in
a total team effort, while a struggling Toronto team fielded just
17 men.
The Redmen sit in a three-way tie for first place in CUFLA East
with Carleton and Bishop's. All three have identical 3-1
records. Trent (2-1) holds a game in hand but could
easily go 3-1 which would set up an unprecedented four-way tie for
first place in the division. Toronto (0-3) and Queen's (0-4)
bring up the rear.
McGill will travel to Lennoxville, Que., Thursday, to take on
Bishop's in a night game.
REDMEN RAP: After the McGill-Toronto game, the Redmen fielded
half of their roster in a friendly exhibition match-up against a
22-man Alumni squad and hung on for an 11-10 victory over their
oldtimers. The Alumni squad, guided by former Redman coach
John Threshie, started strong but ran out of gas in the fourth
quarter and surrendered a late go-ahead goal. The
overtime session featured a 'Braveheart' format. Each team put up
five players in a one-on-one full field competition, the Redmen
outlasted the Alumni 3-1 to take the game 11-10. The winning tally
was scored by sophomore Will Edwards to keep the Redmen's
record perfect at 3-0 lifetime versus their alumni team.
