MONTREAL -- Mack O'Brien of Peterborough, Ont.,
scored six times as the Trent University Excalibur slayed the
Redmen 12-7 in men's lacrosse at Molson Stadium, Saturday.
"Our offence never got into gear, while the Excalibur
capitalized on numerous errors," said McGill head coach Tim Murdoch. "Trent came in here highly-motivated to finish
first we did not respond to their challenge. We were flat."
Trent led 3-1 after one quarter, 6-2 at the half and 11-4
after three quarters. Three goals by the home side in the
final stanza was too little, too late.
Seven different players scored for McGill, including Luke
LaCava, Jake Safarik, Scott Bailey, Will Edwards, Jishan Sharples,
Ryan Besse and Greg Henry.
Guy Fox took the loss petween the pipes for McGill. Kavin Thomas
registered the victory for Trent.
Other marksmen for the Excalibur were Josh Wasson (2), Chad
Evans, Tyler Warren, Jesse Way and Joe Stanley.
The victory clinched first place in the six-team CUFLA East
Division. Trent has a 7-2 record and will close out their regular
season at Bishop's (6-2) on Sunday. McGill has completed their
season at 7-3 and will either finish second or third, depending
upon what the Gaiters do in their final two games. The
Redmen will either host Bishop's or travel to Peterborough to play
Trent over Halloween weekend in quarterfinal
action.
