LENNOXVILLE, Que. -- All-Canadian Luke LaCava
of Weston, Conn., scored four goals but it wasn't enough as
visiting McGill suffered a 7-6 loss at Bishop's in men's university
lacrosse, Thursday.
"It was a tough loss but we earned it by playing poorly on
offence, which never got on track. We're flat tonight," said
Tim Murdoch, head coach of the Redmen. "But
we did get a strong effort from the defence and goalkeeper Guy Fox
kept it close."
The low-scoring affair had Bishop's ahead 2-0 after the opening
quarter 2-1 at halftime and 4-2 after three quarters.
McGill managed to tie the game at 5-5 on a pretty goal by
freshman Ryan Besse of Toronto, but what appeared
to be a go-ahead goal by McGill's Greg Henry, who
had scored earlier, was disallowed due to a crease violation.
McGill lost momentum after that and Bishop's scored two unanswered
goals to go ahead 7-5. LaCava's fourth goal of the night with
two minutes remaining made it a one-goal game but Bishop's gained
control of the ball on the ensuing face-off and the Gaiters ran out
the clock.
Bishop's improved to 5-1 and sits atop CUFLA-East while the
Redmen drop to 3-2 and sit tied for third with Carleton (3-2).
Trent is in second place at 3-1.
The Redmen are back in action in Molson Stadium on Oct. 3 when
they host winless Queen's (0-4) in a 7 pm start. On Sunday, McGill
take on an improved Carleton squad at 2 pm.
