Nicolas Soubry retired after the 2025 fall season as head coach of the McGill men’s varsity lacrosse team. Over Soubry's six years (only four seasons due to the COVID pandemic) at the helm, he guided the Redbirds to a 48-18 record overall, including a stellar 31-9 mark in regular season play and a 7-4 record in the CUFLA playoffs, winning CUFLA East Division pennants in 2024 (undefeated) and 2025.
In each of his four seasons, Soubry guided McGill to consecutive berths at the Baggataway Cup league championship tournament. Prior to taking over the helm from bench boss
Tim Murdoch, who retired after the 2019-20 season, Soubry had served as an assistant coach under Murdoch, handling defence from 2015 to 2019. During that period, McGill posted a 60-15 record in 75 contests overall, collecting four CUFLA East pennants, two undefeated regular seasons and one Baggataway Cup league championship (2015).
From 2015 to 2017, Soubry was also head coach of the Junior Patriotes de Longueuil, which won a conference championship in 2015 and led to the league's coach-of-the-year honours. In 2018, he was named the director of Box Lacrosse Education for the Westmount lacrosse program. In 2019, he was the head coach for the bantam South Shore Centurion team, which was the first non-Indigenous Quebec squad to make it to the Ontario Lacrosse Association playoffs for B division. In 2021, he was the development coach from Team Québec Under-19 women’s box lacrosse team.
Soubry earned a B.Sc in biology from the NCAA's Sacred Heart University followed by a Ph.D in biophysics from McGill in 2021. He played varsity lacrosse at Sacred Heart (2010-2013), where he was awarded the team's Comeback Player of the Year award in 2013. He played 26 games on defence with 18 starts. Soubry also played box lacrosse for both the Burlington Chiefs (Jr. A; 2010-2012) and the Oakville Buzz (Jr. B; 2008-2009). A stalwart on defence, he earned the team's Chief of the Year Award in 2012.
Soubry resides in Verdun, Que., with his partner
Camille Bodnar (also a McGill grad), and their dog Luna.
