Stewart McCarthey of Pierrefonds, Que., was appointed as an assistant coach with the Martlets in July, 2008.

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, McCarthey served as head coach of the Lac St Louis Tigers from 2005 to 2007, where he compiled a 48-31-11 record.

He brings 34 years of coaching experience at the Pee Wee, Bantam AA and Midget AAA levels, primarily in the Lac St. Louis, North Shore and Dollard des Ormeaux regions of Montreal.

McCarthey, 51, has been an employee in the facilities management and development office at McGill since 1979. He holds a Level 3 coaching license from the National Coaching Certification Program and also has his advanced Level 1 accreditation from the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.

A 1978 graduate of Father McDonald high school in St. Laurent, Que., he moved into the coaching ranks the next year with a novice B team in the suburban region of A Ma Baie. In 1995, McCarthey coached the last Bantam AA boys team in the North Shore. The next year, he guided Lac St-Louis North to the Chrysler Cup, a major bantam AA provincial championship.

McCarthey and his wife Bernadette reside in Pierrefonds with their daughter (Sarah) and son (Matthew).
