Casey Auerbach was appointed head coach and field manager of the McGill University men's baseball team in the fall of 2018. The 30-year-old from Westmount, Que., replaced Jason Starr who stepped down after six years as bench boss.

Auerbach becomes the fourth bench boss in team history, behind Johnny Elias (1994 to 1995), Ernie D'Alessandro (1996 to 2011) and Starr (2012 to 2017).

Since hanging up his cleats in 2012, the native of Westmount, Que., has served the past four years on the coaching staff – most recently in the capacity of associate head coach and recruiting coordinator – and helped Starr guide McGill to four straight national titles. Auerbach, who has also played a major fundraising role with the team, coached one year with the NCAA's Ursinus College (2017) and was a player-coach in Switzerland's National A League in 2011 and 2012.

During his younger days, Auerbach played Jr. AA with Lac St. Louis before a brilliant collegiate career with McGill, where he was a star infielder and pitcher for five seasons from 2008 to 2012.  He earned CIBA national all-tournament honours in 2008 and helped the Redmen win a national championship in 2010.
