A note from Coach Carpenter

After 105 years of competition McGill varsity swimming continues to pride itself on the quality of their student-athletes.  The swimming world in our country continues to evolve and it is becoming more and more competitive at all levels, but especially at the CIS level.  More athletes are staying in Canada than ever before which makes our job of attracting the best AND brightest all the more exciting and challenging.  To continue to gain ground on our competitors in Quebec and in the rest of the country we will need to be able to compete financially with the offers that some other schools are able to provide.  For this we need your help.

In 2014 our women finished in 7th place nationally, and over the next 2 or 3 years we may have the opportunity of scratching and clawing our way into the top 5 in the nation.  With the continued support of our athletic department, and of course our alumni and friends, I know that we can continue to produce All-Canadians in the pool and in the classroom.

Our Fundraising Priorities

  • Strength & Conditioning Training and Massage Therapy- $25,000
An investment in our strength and conditioning training would allow us to enhance the program by having an extra session, and buy specific equipment for our team ($5,000). Additionally, the team has a great therapist but due to a shortage of staff available, their time is split with other teams. Securing a therapist dedicated to the team would require an investment of $20,000.

  • Athletic Financial Awards - $50,000
Recruitment in swimming is extremely competitive given the bigger programs at other universities of comparable size. With a lack of AFAs, this makes it difficult to lure top talent away from those bigger programs. An endowed award would contribute significantly to this effort within the program.

  • Travel Funds - $15,000
This season, due to a lack of funds we had to take a great team meet off of the schedule. While we have an annual budget for non-conference travel meets, additional investments to allow our program more experience elsewhere, benefits our athletes tremendously.
