OTTAWA — The Carleton Ravens erupted early and held off a steady McGill rally to prevail 10-6 and complete a doubleheader sweep in men's baseball at RCGT Park, Sunday. The result gave Carleton back-to-back victories — following a 7-0 win in the opener — and avenged the Redbirds' sweep in Saturday's twin bill.

The Ravens (9-6) struck for three runs in the first inning and never trailed, building leads of 3-1 after the first, 7-2 after three and 9-3 after four. McGill (3-10) chipped away with single runs in each of the final four frames but could not close the gap.

Both sides registered 11 hits, but Carleton made better use of their opportunities, capitalizing on three Redbirds errors to score eight earned runs. McGill left 11 stranded compared to Carleton's 7, while committing three miscues to Carleton's two.

At the plate, McGill second baseman Jackson Cohen led the way with a 2-for-3 outing, including a double, two runs scored and a walk. Shortstop Gabriel Reque Cruz also had a pair of hits and an RBI, while catcher Nathaniel Steffler collected two hits. Outfielder Xavier Felx tripled and scored, while designated hitter Robert Glusker and third baseman Eli Brisman chipped in RBIs. Pinch-hitter Dylan Yang and newcomer Davis Nickel also figured into the scoring late, with Yang notching a hit and run scored.

Carleton spread their offence around, with Thomas Fournier and Dylan Merpaw each posting two-hit, two-run performances. Fournier doubled, singled and drove in two, while Merpaw singled twice with a pair of RBIs. Cleanup hitter Eric Del Fatti delivered three runs batted in and stole a base, and Brayden Bult added a hit, two steals, two RBIs and two runs.

On the mound, McGill starter Marcus Dela Cruz was saddled with the loss. He lasted just a third of an inning, yielding three runs on four hits and a walk. Relievers Robert Passmore-Waugh and Agastya Kushari combined for six more runs over 3.2 innings, though only two were earned. Carleton counterpart Matthew Scott worked six innings, scattering 10 hits while striking out six and issuing two walks. Despite allowing five runs (four earned), he left with a 9-5 lead. Jackson Hurst pitched the seventh for the win, striking out two despite issuing a pair of walks.

McGill's run-by-run persistence narrowed the gap, including a sacrifice fly from Glusker in the sixth and Felx racing home on a seventh-inning passed ball. But Carleton's cushion proved too wide.

The Ravens, who improved to 9-6, will next host Watson Elite on Sept. 22. The Redbirds fell to 3-10 and are scheduled to face Académie Baseball Canada on Sept. 26 in a 7 p.m. start at Stade Gary Carter in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

OTTAWA — Les Ravens de Carleton ont pris rapidement l'avantage et ont résisté à une remontée constante de McGill pour s'imposer 10-6 et remporter les deux matchs du programme double de baseball masculin disputé dimanche au RCGT Park. Ce résultat permet à Carleton d'enchaîner deux victoires consécutives — après s'être imposé 7-0 lors du premier match — et de prendre sa revanche sur les Redbirds qui avaient remporté les deux matchs disputés samedi.

Les Ravens (9-6) ont marqué trois points dès la première manche et n'ont jamais été menés, menant 3-1 après la première manche, 7-2 après la troisième et 9-3 après la quatrième. McGill (3-10) a réduit l'écart en marquant un point à chacune des quatre dernières manches, mais n'a pas réussi à rattraper son retard.

Les deux équipes ont enregistré 11 coups sûrs, mais Carleton a mieux exploité ses occasions, profitant de trois erreurs des Redbirds pour marquer huit points mérités. McGill a laissé 11 coureurs sur les bases, contre sept pour Carleton, tout en commettant trois erreurs contre deux pour Carleton.

La persévérance de McGill, qui a marqué point par point, a permis de réduire l'écart, notamment grâce à un sacrifice au bâton de Glusker en sixième manche et à Felx qui a marqué un point sur une balle passée en septième manche. Mais l'avance de Carleton s'est avérée trop importante.

Les Ravens, qui ont amélioré leur fiche à 9-6, accueilleront Watson Elite le 22 septembre. Les Redbirds ont vu leur fiche passer à 3-10 et affronteront l'Académie Baseball Canada le 26 septembre à 19 h au Stade Gary Carter à Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
