CÔTE ST. LUC, Que. – Académie Baseball Canada (ABC) opened its fall season with a 6-2 victory over McGill in the first game of a baseball doubleheader, Saturday morning at Gary Carter Field in Trudeau Park.

ABC (1-0), a high-performance development program for elite players aged 16 to 19, only had four hits but took advantage of nine walks.

They capitalized on a pair of early rallies and never looked back. The visitors struck for two runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI groundout from Josue Gelinas and a sacrifice fly by Maxime Decarie. They tacked on two more in the third, when Xavier-Raphael Brault singled home a run and Decarie added another RBI hit, before pushing across two unearned runs in the sixth to build a 6-0 cushion

McGill (0-5) broke through in the bottom of the sixth. Radbod Yazdanfar stroked a double to right and scored on a bunt single by Gabriel Recque-Cruz. Moments later, William Durnford lined a single to left, cashing in Recque-Cruz to trim the deficit to 6-2. The Redbirds finished with six hits, including two from Yazdanfar, (2/3, R, RBI) but stranded 10 runners.

Southpaw Eliott Malo (1-0) picked up the win for ABC, tossing two hitless innings in relief with four strikeouts. Lefthanded starter Thomas Côté-Collard threw two scoreless frames, while relievers Josh Theriault and Jerome Lucas closed it out.

McGill righthander Will Greer (0-1) started and was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs – three earned – on three hits and six walks over five innings. Reliever Agastya Kushari provided two innings of no-hit relief with one strikeout and three walks

Final totals saw ABC score six runs on four hits with no errors and 13  runners left on base, while McGill countered with two runs on six hits, one error and 15 stranded.

The teams were scheduled to square off again in Game 2 of the doubleheader at 2 p.m.

CÔTE ST. LUC, Québec – L'Académie Baseball Canada (ABC) a débuté sa saison automnale par une victoire de 6-2 contre McGill lors du premier match d'un programme double de baseball, samedi matin au Gary Carter Field du parc Trudeau.

L'ABC (1-0), un programme de développement de haut niveau destiné aux joueurs d'élite âgés de 16 à 19 ans, n'a réussi que quatre coups sûrs, mais a profité de neuf buts sur balles.

Elle a capitalisé sur deux rallyes en début de match et n'a jamais regardé en arrière. Les visiteurs ont marqué deux points en première manche, notamment grâce à un roulant de Josué Gélinas et un sacrifice au bâton de Maxime Décarie. Ils en ont ajouté deux autres en troisième manche, lorsque Xavier-Raphael Brault a frappé un simple et Decarie a ajouté un autre coup sûr, avant de marquer deux points non mérités en sixième manche pour prendre une avance de 6-0.

McGill (0-5) a marqué ses premiers points en fin de sixième manche. Radbod Yazdanfar a frappé un double vers la droite et a marqué sur un simple de Gabriel Recque-Cruz. Quelques instants plus tard, William Durnford a frappé un simple vers la gauche, permettant à Recque-Cruz de marquer et de réduire l'écart à 6-2. Les Redbirds ont terminé avec six coups sûrs, dont deux de Yazdanfar (2/3, PT, PP), mais ont laissé 10 coureurs sur les bases.

Le gaucher Eliott Malo (1-0) a remporté la victoire pour ABC, lançant deux manches sans coup sûr en relève avec quatre retraits au bâton. Le lanceur partant gaucher Thomas Côté-Collard a lancé deux manches sans point, tandis que les releveurs Josh Thériault et Jérome Lucas ont terminé le match.

Le droitier de McGill Will Greer (0-1) a pris le départ et a été crédité de la défaite, concédant quatre points – dont trois mérités – sur trois coups sûrs et six buts sur balles en cinq manches. Le releveur Agastya Kushari a lancé deux manches sans coup sûr, avec un retrait sur des prises et trois buts sur balles.

Au total, ABC a marqué six points sur quatre coups sûrs sans commettre d'erreur et avec 13 coureurs laissés sur base, tandis que McGill a répliqué avec deux points sur six coups sûrs, une erreur et 15 coureurs laissés sur base.

Les deux équipes devaient s'affronter à nouveau dans le deuxième match du programme double à 14 h.
