QUEBEC CITY — Sacha Dernoncourt of McGill University finished 10th overall to pace the McGill Redbirds to a second-place finish among eight schools in the men's division of the Rouget et Or Invitational cross-country meet, Saturday, on the historic Plains of Abraham.
The chemical engineering junior from Baton Rouge, La., completed the eight-kilometre course in 26 minutes, three seconds. Laval's Philippe Morneau-Cartier captured the individual title, clocking 24:15 to lead the Rouge et Or to victory in the team standings. Rounding out the podium were Thomas Laviolette (24:49) of the Montréal Carabins and UQTR's Pavlos Antoniades (25:16).
McGill's team scoring was rounded out by Ben Gates (13th / 26:15), Émile Mignault (14th / 26:18), Sean Adams (15th / 26:22) and Roman Bordo (20th / 26:48), giving the Redbirds 72 points.
The meet marked the third race of the season for the Redbirds. Next on the schedule is the RSEQ conference championship, Oct. 25 at Parc Saint-Lazare in Vaudreuil, Que., followed by the U SPORTS national championship on Nov. 8 in Sherbrooke, Que.

QUÉBEC — Sacha Dernoncourt, de l'Université McGill, a terminé 10e au classement général, permettant aux Redbirds de McGill de décrocher la deuxième place parmi les huit écoles participant à la compétition masculine de cross-country Invitation Rouge et Or, samedi, sur les plaines historiques d'Abraham.
L'étudiant en génie chimique originaire de Baton Rouge, en Louisiane, a parcouru les huit kilomètres en 26 minutes et trois secondes. Philippe Morneau-Cartier, de Laval, a remporté le titre individuel avec un temps de 24:15, menant le Rouge et Or à la victoire au classement par équipe. Thomas Laviolette (24:49), des Carabins de Montréal, et Pavlos Antoniades (25:16), de l'UQTR, ont complété le podium.
Le score de l'équipe de McGill a été complété par Ben Gates (13e / 26:15), Émile Mignault (14e / 26:18), Sean Adams (15e / 26:22) et Roman Bordo (20e / 26:48), donnant 72 points aux Redbirds.
