MONTREAL –
Amelie Poire-Lehoux scored at 2:26 of double overtime at the Montreal Carabins escaped with a 2-1 win over visiting McGill in RSEQ women's hockey at Arena CEPSUM, Friday.
This was McGill's sixth straight loss to Montreal since upsetting the Carabins 4-1 on Oct. 20, 2023. The Martlets now own a 60-40-0 record in 100 lifetime head-to-head meetings.
A good goaltending battle between U de M's
Elissa Jean (15 saves) and McGill's
Jade Rivard-Coulombe (34 saves) limited special teams play as the Carabins went 0-for-5 on the power-play, while McGill was 0-for-3.
After a scoreless opening period, forward
Mika Chang put the Martlets ahead at 6:58 of the middle frame. The bioengineering senior from Toronto was assisted on the play from linemate
Taylor Garcia and rearguard
Olivia Pridham.
That advantage held up until midway through the third period, when
Wikona Laloche scored at 7:14 to force overtime.
After a scoreless five-minute period at four skaters aside, they went on to a 3-on-3 period, which set the stage for the winning tally.
The teams have a day off before switching venues and crossing paths again. U de M (4-1-1) will confront the Martlets (0-5-1) at the Place Bell community rink on Grey Cup Sunday (Nov. 17) at 3:30 pm.
