Redbirds starter
Nathaniel Factor took the loss. In four innings, he allowed five runs (three unearned) on four hits but walked five.
In the first game, UQTR scored six runs on five hits and made three errors, compared to McGill's no runs on two hits and three errors. Patriotes starter
Cedric Caron collected the victory, striking out eight batters over six innings. He allowed no runs on two hits, while walking two. The game's only multi-hit player was UQTR's
Samuel Anderson, who went 2-for-3 from the seventh spot in the batting order.
McGill starter
Caden Welch conceded four runs (two unearned) on just two hits in three innings. He walked five, hit two batters and struck out two. Three Redbirds managed one hit apiece, including Marelich,
Aidan Grskovic, and
Jonas Press.
The second-place Redbirds are done with regular season play and are expected to confront third-place Concordia (currently 2-5) in the league semifinals next weekend. Before then, McGill has three non-conference games scheduled for this weekend. The Redbirds will head to Montreal's northeastern borough of Ahuntsic, to play at Stade Gary Carter against the elite U-17 squad from the Academie du Baseball Canada, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, McGill travels to Kingston, Ont., to play a doubleheader against Queen's (8-6) on Sunday (Oct. 1), beginning at 11 a.m.
