MONTREAL – Three different players scored and goaltender
Aube Racine posted a seven-save shutout as the second-place Montreal Carabins skated to a 3-0 triumph over visiting McGill in the RSEQ women's hockey at the CEPSUM Arena, Sunday.
The result avenged McGill's 3-2 victory on Jan. 12 as the Martlets dropped to 59-33 lifetime in 92 games overall against the Carabins, including an 11-4 run over the last 15 meetings.
The Carabins, who had a 39-7 edge in shots, went 1-for-4 on the power-play, while McGill was 0-for-2.
Martlets netminder
Sarah Carmichael, a pharmacology sophomore from St. Lazare, Que., was called on to make her sixth start of the season and she made 36 saves in a losing cause.
After a scoreless first period,
Raphaelle Pouliot put U de M on the scoreboard at 3:31 of the middle frame. The Carabins added two more in the final period, with
Audrey-Anne Veillette (8:20) and
Jessika Boulanger (15:24).
McGill forward
Marika Labrecque of Lac Etchemin, Que., played on defence for the fifth consecutive game. The fifth-year senior was moved to the blueline after rearguard
Elizabeth Mura took a four-game sabbatical to play for the U SPORTS all-star squad that won gold for Canada at the FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, N.Y. Labrecque has 39 goals and 112 points in 151 career contests overall.
McGill (2-17-1) will host division-leading and No.3 ranked Concordia (16-3-1) on Thursday, Feb. 2 in a 7 p.m. start at McConnell Arena, in a game that will kick-off Black History Month on campus.
Montreal (12-4-4), which will host the U SPORTS Final Eight national championship tournament next month, plays at Ottawa (13-5-1) on Feb. 3.
