MONTREAL –
Tricia Deguire, who backstopped the McGill University Martlets to a pair of Quebec league championships, has signed a contract to play for the new Montreal expansion team in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF).
Over her five seasons, the 24-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Que., was a four-time RSEQ conference all-star and merited second-team All-Canadian honours in her junior year (2018-19). During her freshman campaign, Deguire was named as the Quebec league's rookie of the year and received U SPORTS All-Rookie status.
She posted a 91-57-1 record in 154 games overall with McGill, registering 30 shutouts, a 1.90 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage. In RSEQ regular season play, Deguire saw duty in 84 of the team's 85 games played since joining the Martlets in 2016. She had a 56-27 record with 15 shutouts, a 1.73 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.
She attended Hockey Canada training camps in four of her five seasons at McGill and was one of three McGill players selected to play for Canada at the elite Nations Cup tournament in Germany.
Deguire earned an undergraduate degree in kinesiology (2020), followed by a master's degree in exercise physiology (2022).
With Montreal, she rejoins McGill teammate
Jade Downie-Landry, who inked a deal with the team last month. Also on the roster is
Ann-Sophie Bettez, another Martlets great who will be inducted to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame in Oct. 20, during Homecoming Week.
Initially known as the NWHL in 2015, the league rebranded in 2021 to become the PHF. The Federation is made up of the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal, and the Toronto Six who all compete annually for the Isobel Cup.
