McGill cross-country foursome merits RSEQ all-conference honours


MONTREAL – Matthew Beaudet and Tom Secheyron head a group of four all-stars from the McGill University men's cross-country team, as part of the conference award winners in a vote conducted by the head coaches at each school and announced by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec.
 
Beaudet and Sycheyron both merited a berth on the first team, while teammates Jack Stanley and Noah El Rimawi-Fine made the second squad.
 
Beaudet, an electrical engineering junior, is a 22-year-old native of from the NDG borough of Montreal. The 5-foot-9, 145-pound distance runner was the team's top finisher in all three of his races. He earned first-team all-conference status by finishing in the top 14 at the RSEQ championship meet in Rawdon, Que., where he was second of 94 runners, completing the eight-kilometre race in 24 minutes, 46 seconds. Beaudet missed the season-opening McGill meet on Sept. 17, but his season debut produced a gold medal performance at the Capital Classic in Ottawa (Oct. 1), that led to him being named as the McGill athlete of the week and the U SPORTS cross-country runner of the week. He then missed the Rouge et Or interlocking meet in Quebec City (Oct. 8) but returned in fine form to capture the Sherbrooke meet (Oct. 15).
 
Secheyron, who turns 21 on Nov. 11, is a native of Lausanne, in Switzerland. He is a 5-foot-9 political science junior, with a minor in international development and social entrepreneurship. At the RSEQ championship meet in Rawdon, he was McGill's second-leading runner, placing fifth overall in the 8k race to qualify for first-team honours with a time of 25:25. His other competitions included 24th overall at the McGill Open (Sept. 17) and fifth at the Capital Classic in Ottawa (Oct. 1). He missed the Rouge et Or interlocking meet in Quebec City (Oct. 8), then returned to produce a silver-medal finish at the Sherbrooke meet (Oct. 15).
 
Stanley, a 23-year-old native of Victoria, B.C., is a second-year PhD candidate in quantitative life sciences. The 5-foot-9 distance specialist transferred to McGill in 2021 after graduating with a science degree from the University of Toronto. At the RSEQ championship meet in Rawdon, he was McGill's second-leading runner, placing fifth overall in the 8k race to qualify for first-team all-star honours with a time of 25:25. Stanley opened the season by leading the team with a seventh-place finish at the McGill Open (Sept. 17). He then placed 13th at the Capital Classic in Ottawa (Oct. 1), missed the Rouge et Or interlocking meet in Quebec City (Oct. 8), then returned to produce a bronze-medal finish at the Sherbrooke meet (Oct. 15).
 
El Rimawi-Fine is a 21-year-old software engineering senior from Upper Jay, N.Y. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound distance runner was McGill's fourth-leading scorer at the RSEQ championship meet in Rawdon, where he was 10th overall in the 8k race, crossing the finish line in 26:01 to earn second team all-conference honours. He opened the season as the team's second leading scorer with an 11th-place finish at the McGill Open (Sept. 17). He then placed fourth at the Capital Classic in Ottawa (Oct. 1), finished 18th at the Rouge et Or interlocking meet in Quebec City (Oct. 8) and missed the Sherbrooke meet (Oct. 15).
