MONTREAL – No. 3 ranked Concordia exploded for four goals in the opening period en route to a 5-2 victory over visiting McGill in RSEQ women's hockey at the Ed Meagher Arena, Friday.
Rosalie Begin-Cyr and
Alexandra-Anne Boyer each tallied twice for the Stingers, who led 4-0 after one and 5-2 after two.
Megan Bureau-Gagnon notched the other Concordia marker, while teammate
Emmy Fecteau collected three assists.
Sophomore
Quynn Campbell of Toronto, paced the Martlets with a goal in the second period and an assist. She set up sophomore
Stephanie Keeper of Red Deer, Alta., who tallied the game's final goal midway through the final stanza.
Concordia had a 26-24 edge in shots and went 1-for-2 on the power-play, while McGill was 1-for-8.
Stingers netminder
Alice Philbert, a senior from Montreal, made 22 saves for the win. Sophomore
Sarah Carmichael of St. Lazare, Que., started between the pipes for McGill and took the loss, conceding four goals on 10 shots in the opening stanza. She was replaced by
Sophie Lajeunesse, a sophomore from Calgary, who played the final 40 minutes and kicked aside 15 of 16 shots.
Both teams return to the ice on Sunday. McGill plays at Ottawa (4-1-1) for a 2 p.m. faceoff, while Concordia travels to Bishop's (4-1-1) for matinee against the Gaiters, who share the RSEQ division-lead with Ottawa.
