MONTREAL --
Angelique Page of Ottawa scored the game-winner at 16:45 of the final period as the visiting Bishop's Gaiters rallied to nip McGill 2-1 in the RSEQ women's hockey season opener at McConnell Arena, Friday.
The result snapped McGill's six-game win streak over the Gaiters since the team from Lennoxville, Que., began play in 2019.
The Martlets led 1-0 after the opening period on a marker from senior
Makenzie McCallum of Morden, Man., at 18:14. drawing an assist on the play was
Mia Vaananen, a third-year rearguard from Montreal.
The BU comeback was initiated in the middle frame when
Maude Pepin, a sophomore from Pont Rouge, Que., connected on a power-play at 19:34.
Gaiters goalie
Aglae Rene de Cotret of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., turned aside 26 of 27 shots for the victory, She played a key role in stifling the McGill power-play, which went 0-for-5 in the game. The Gaiters were 1-for-1 with the extra attacker.
Martlets sophomore netminder
Sophie Lajeunesse, who hails from Calgary, kicked out 26 of 28 and took the loss.
McGill (0-1) will host the defending national champion Concordia Stingers (0-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Gaiters (2-0) will return to Montreal next week to take on Concordia on Oct. 30
