MONTREAL -- The undefeated McGill University
women's hockey team remains No.1 in the nation after the weekly Top 10 rankings were released by U SPORTS, Tuesday. Also making the Top 10 was the McGill
women's cross-country squad, which slots in at No. 10.
It marks the second straight week that the hockey Martlets sit atop the rankings. They improved to 6-0 in regular season play, outscoring opponents 24-6, after posting a pair of home-ice victories last week. In
women's cross-country, the Martlets were idle but remained at No. 10 as they prepare for the national championships, hosted by No. 2 Laval, in Quebec City on Nov. 21. No. 1 Guelph remains the top seed to close out the season.
In
men's cross-country, No. 1 Laval will take their top ranking into the U SPORTS championships in which they'll host at the Plains of Abraham. Laval is looking for their first U SPORTS title since 2016.
In men's hockey, the No. 1 UNB Red's (11-1-0) reign of dominance continues after a 6-1 victory over Acadia (4-9-0) and a 4-1 win over Saint Mary's (5-6-1). UNB's Austen Keating has been a crucial play-maker for the Reds, notching five goals and 11 helpers through 12 games, while Nicolas Guay has tallied eight goals and eight assists on the season.
In football, the Montreal Carabins (7-1, 2-0) remain the top seed, defeating Laval (5-3, 1-1) for the RSEQ conference banner. With a 28-19 victory over rival No. 5 Laval in the 41st Dunsmore Cup, the No. 1 Carabins have punched their ticket to the Uteck Bowl. This is the first time Montreal has beaten the Rouge et Or three times in a single season. The Carabins will square off against the winner of the Canada West's Hardy Cup between No. 6 Manitoba (4-2, 1-0) and No. 4 Saskatchewan (5-1, 1-0).
In the OUA's Yates Cup, No. 3 Queen's (6-0, 2-0) will host No. 2 Western (5-1, 2-0), while in the AUS' Loney Bowl, No. 7 StFX (6-0, 1-0) will face off against Bishop's (2-4, 1-0) to determine the Mitchell Bowl national semifinal participants.
In women's volleyball, Alberta (4-0) has usurped Trinity Western (2-0) for the top seed in the U SPORTS rankings. The No.1 Pandas have started the season on a roll with four straight wins. Last week, the Pandas topped No. 8 Mount Royal (2-2) 3-1 then cruised past the MacEwan Griffins (0-4) in straight sets to earn the nation's top spot. In the Panda's victory over MRU, head coach Laurie Eisler became the winningest coach in University of Alberta history with 417 wins.
In
men's volleyball, No.1 Trinity Western (2-0) enters the second week of rankings as the top seed after being idle in conference play. The Spartans are currently on a California tour, where they've gone 5-1 against some of the best teams in NCAA volleyball.
In women's basketball, the defending national champion Saskatchewan Huskies have jumped to the top of the rankings. The Huskies (4-0) swept a home-and-home against Regina with fifth-year All-Canadian Lisa Thomasaidis leading the way with 56 points in the two contests.
In
men's basketball, the No. 1 Carleton Ravens (2-0) stay the top seed after a week off in conference play. The defending national champs will take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (1-3) in a weekend home-and-home, looking to keep their perfect record intact.
In
women's wrestling, No. 1 Alberta remains the top team in the nation. No. 5 Brock will be looking to defend their U SPORTS championship with their 10th-consecutive title this year.
In
men's wrestling, No. 1 Saskatchewan remain the top seed, while No. 3 Brock will be eyeing their 21st national title after taking home gold in 2019.
