BASEBALL: Dohm and DeFelice dominate decisively as McGill outlasts Stingers


COTE ST. LUC, QUE. -- Emerson Dohm of West Vancouver, B.C., and Domenic DeFelice of Richmond, Mass., combined for seven runs batted in to power McGill past visiting Concordia 8-6 in men's university baseball action at Gary Carter Field, Wednesday.

McGill improved to 3-1 against the Stingers this season, with two meetings remaining.

McGill, which had a 10-6 edge in hits, overcame a 3-0 deficit after two innings. They rallied with three runs in the third, added four more in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Dohm, a 5-foot-11, 177-pound first-baseman, batted 2-for-4 at the plate, with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. DeFelice, an economics junior who was playing at second base. was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and scored a pair of runs.

McGill's only other RBI came off the bat of right-fielder Jonathan DuForest, a physical education senior from Kirkland, Que., who went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Stephen Sitaras went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Concordia in hits.

Cole Millinger started the game for McGill but was not the pitcher of record. He went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out four.

Zach Finkelstein of Nashua, N.H., was credited with the victory in relief. The right-handed sophomore surrendered no runs on no hits over 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking one.

Sam Greene and Thomas Mienkowski entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game with Greene, a management senior from Philadelphia, recording the last six outs to earn the save.

Sam Brochu started the game for Concordia. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out one and walking one  Joseph Raftus took the loss for Concordia. He allowed six hits and five runs over three innings, walking one.

Both teams will now head across the border on Sunday to confront Plattsburgh State (SUNY).

The Stingers (4-8 overall), will play at 11 a.m., followed by McGill (13-7) at 1 p.m.
