OTTAWA --
Chloe Fleurent-Gregoire of Laval, Que., placed fourth of 48 entries but her finish was enough to give the McGill University women's cross-country running team the victory at the Capital Challenge Open meet, Saturday.
It was the third victory in as many meets for the martlets, who placed runners in fourth, sixth, ninth, 14th and 15th, to score 48 total points, one more than the host Ottawa Gee-Gees (49). The Mile2Marathon Track Club finished third (89), followed by Concordia (138) and RMC (178).
Fleurent, a 22-year-old science senior majoring in dietetics, completed the six-kilometre circuit in 22 minutes, 35 seconds. The 5-foot-5 distance runner was beaten out for a podium finish by
Beatha Nishimwe (22:17) of the Ottawa Lions Track Club, former teammate
Murielle Aglot (22:30) of the Saint Laurent Track Club and
Rebecca Brennan (22:32) of the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Rounding out the top five scorers for McGill was junior
Laura Carlton (6th; 23:05) of Bracebridge, Ont., sophomore
Jennifer Ireland (9th; 23:21) of Shelburne, Vt., sophomore
Meredith Chambers (14th; 24:11) of Falmouth, N.S., and
Rachel Langelaan (15th; 24:28), a senior from Grimsby, Ont.
McGill finished second of eight teams on the men's side

Jean Uwajeneza of the Ottawa Lions won the 6k race in 18:26, followed by
Jeff Archer of the Mile2Marathon club (18:46) and
Andre Alie-Lamarche (19:01) of the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
McGill
was led by
Henry Wellenstein , who finished seventh in 19:39. Rounding out the McGill scorers was
Thomas Csisztu (12th, 20:21),
Olivier Cyr (14th, 20:31),
Noah Elrimawi-Fine (17th, 20:49) and
Jake McClure (20th; 21:11).
Ottawa won the men's meet with 42 points, followed by McGill (70), RMC (110), Concordia (1230, the Ottawa Lions (129), the Mile2Marathon club (174), the Remparts Track Club (270) and the Gemini Racers Track Club (286).
This week, they will compete at the RSEQ-AUS interlocking meet, in Parc de Maisonneuve in Montreal, Oct. 12.
