MONTREAL --
Monty Weatherall scored a game-high 13 points as McGill extended their win streak to four with a 23-12 victory over visiting Bishop's in men's university rugby at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.
The result clinched second place and a home game semifinal in the seven-team RSEQ conference for McGill, which improved to 4-1 with one game remaining before playoffs.
Weatherall connected for three penalty kicks and added a pair of conversions. He leads all McGill scorers and ranks fifth in the RSEQ scoring race with 40 points in five games.
The two McGill tries were scored by
Pierre Grison and
Michael Nwabufo, who now has three tries in five contests.
Tyler Murphy led the Gaiters with one try and a conversion, while teammate
Mano Jonker added the other try.
There was one yellow card issued in the game, and it went to
Liam Mellor of the Gaiters.
McGill (4-1) will host the fourth-place Montreal Carabins (2-2-1) to close out the regular season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 27. In the opening round of the playoffs, McGill will either host Ottawa (3-3) or Montreal, depending on which team finishes third.
In another game, Concordia defeated Montreal 28-5 to clinch first place in the Quebec league with an unblemished 5-0 record, including a 23-21 victory in their only meeting with McGill. the Stingers will close out their schedule next week by hosting Bishop's in a 3 p.m. start.
