MONTREAL -- The McGill University golf team begins its competitive season this week with the first of the three 54-hole events on the RSEQ schedule. The first tournament is the Laval Classic to be held at the Cap Rouge Golf Club, Aug. 30-31.
The began preparations for the season with a three-day camp at the Islesmere Golf Club in Laval. A total of 13 student-athletes took part in the camp under the direction of second-year head coach
Antoine St-Jean.
The men's starting lineup features
Stuart Earle, an engineering junior from Woodman's Point, N.B., plus juniors
Dillon Cooper of Vancouver, B.C., and
Samir Ladak of Richmond, B.C. Among the sophomores are
William Comeau of Valleyfield Que.,
Colton Ryan of Gatineau, Que.,
Keven Lin of Vancouver andÂ
Leo Deschamps, a native of France. Rounding out the squad are freshmen
Tristan Vandette of Beaconsfield Que.,
Jake Bears, an American from New London, N.H., and
Zizo Said, a 17-year-old native of Cairo who played on the Egyptian national team.
On the women's side is senior
June Gleed of Aurora, Ont., junior
Nicole Tieman of Beaconsfield, Que., sophomore
Rene Cheng of Coquitlam, B.C., and freshman
Alicia Essig of Winnipeg.

The top player in the pre-season camp was
Patrekur Ragnarsson. Unfortunately, due to student visa delays, he was forced to return to Iceland to continue his studies and will be a large loss to the program.

Following a practice round on Aug 29 at the Cap Rouge Golf Club, the team is scheduled to play two 18-hole rounds on Aug. 30, followed by another 18-hole round on Aug. 31.
This season, all RSEQ events are 54 holes with four of of the top five scores for each round counting for the men's total. On the women's side, the top three of four entries for each round count in the team scoring . Points are awarded for each round with the champion team determined by the total of the seven-round schedule.

The next event on the calendar is the Montreal Carabins Classic, Sept 7-8, at the Summerlea Golf Club in Dorion, Que. The last event is the RSEQ championship tournament, hosted by McGill at the Islesmere Golf Club from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
McGill may also participate in two non-conference competitions, the Carleton and Queen's invitational tourney on Sept 15 and 16, respectively.
