MONTREAL -- Ann-Sophie Bettez, a five-time All-Canadian forward with the McGill University Martlets, has been selected to play in the Canadian Women's Hockey League's all-star game for the fourth consecutive year. The event, slated to be broadcast nationwide on Sportsnet, is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2019 at Scotiabank Arena, home of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs

The 5-foot-4 sniper joins former Laurier goaltender Liz Knox as the only graduates from Canadian university programs -- now under the U SPORTS umbrella -- on a roster that features 32 products of NCAA programs, including 28 players who have represented their country at the Olympics and other international tournaments. Another McGillian named to the all-star affair is Marie-Philip Poulin, a national team player and star forward with the Montreal Canadiennes who skated for Boston University and now serves as a skills development coach with the Martlets.

Bettez, a 31-year-old native of Sept-Îles, Que., is currently a financial advisor at Investors Group after graduating with a marketing degree in 2011, followed by a certificate in public relations. She concluded a brilliant playing career as McGill's all-time leader in goals, assists and points. She tallied 148 goals and 323 points in 196 games overall, including a regular season mark of 85-87-172 in 91 contests.

A product of Dawson College, Bettez started her university career off with a bang at McGill, being voted the nation's top freshman in 2007-08. The following year, she was named league MVP as a sophomore after establishing RSEQ records in goals, assists and points with a 24-30-54 total in just 18 conference games. In her fifth year at McGill, she was selected league MVP again and merited the holy trinity of major awards, with the Bob Brodrick Trophy as Canadian university hockey player of the year, the Gladys Bean Trophy as McGill's female athlete of the year and the BLG Award as the nation's top university female athlete. Bettez guided the Martlets to the national championship tourney in each of her five years, including gold medal victories in 2008, 2009 and 2011. A former member of the national team, she helped Canada win silver at the 2009 IIHF world championships in Finland and also guided Canada to gold at the 2011 world university winter games in Turkey.

After graduation, she joined the Montreal Stars, now known as Les Canadiennes, of the CWHL and won the league's rookie-of-the-year honours in 2012-13. She received the Angela James Bowl as the league's top scorer in 2013-14 and was named as the CWHL player of the year. In 2017, she helped guide Montreal to the Clarkson Cup national championship. After seven seasons with Montreal, she ranks third among the CWHL's lifetime points leaders with a 108-125-233 record in 156 regular season contests.
