Baseball Redmen send Stingers packing, win streak now at 21

COTE ST. LUC, Que.  -- Three pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as visiting McGill defeated Concordia 4-1 in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association action at Gary carter Field on Wednesday. The Redmen improved to 9-0 in league play and extended their win streak to 21 regular season games dating back to last year.

Frederic Lalande broke up the no-hiiter to lead off the fourth inning, with a pop fly that fell in front of McGill right fielder Andre Lagarde.

Redmen starter Benji Kaiserman earned the win, surrendering one run on one hit, walking five and striking out two. Sam Greene threw two innings and Thomas Mienkowski recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Concordia starter Sam Brochu took the loss. He pitched two innings, surrendering three runs, five hits, walking one and hitting one batter.

The Redmen collected nine hits, with two apiece by Andre Lagarde and Jonathan Duforest.

McGill opened the scoring in the second inning when Jake Guggenheimer's sacrifice fly cashed in Lagarde. Concordia evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Chandler Philippas hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

The Redmen took the lead for good with two runs in the third, one on an error and one on an RBI single by Duforest. They added an insurance run in the final inning when Duforest scored on a sac-fly to right by Emerson Dohm.
