COTE ST. LUC, Que. -- Three pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as visiting McGill defeated Concordia 4-1 in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association action at Gary carter Field on Wednesday. The Redmen improved to 9-0 in league play and extended their win streak to 21 regular season games dating back to last year.
Frederic Lalande broke up the no-hiiter to lead off the fourth inning, with a pop fly that fell in front of McGill right fielder
Andre Lagarde.
Redmen starter
Benji Kaiserman earned the win, surrendering one run on one hit, walking five and striking out two.
Sam Greene threw two innings and
Thomas Mienkowski recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Concordia starter
Sam Brochu took the loss. He pitched two innings, surrendering three runs, five hits, walking one and hitting one batter.
The Redmen collected nine hits, with two apiece by
Andre Lagarde and
Jonathan Duforest.
McGill opened the scoring in the second inning when
Jake Guggenheimer's sacrifice fly cashed in Lagarde. Concordia evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when
Chandler Philippas hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
The Redmen took the lead for good with two runs in the third, one on an error and one on an RBI single by Duforest. They added an insurance run in the final inning when Duforest scored on a sac-fly to right by
Emerson Dohm.
McGill, which owns an 18-3-1 record overall, heads to upper New York state for a couple of exhibition double headers. They will play at Monroe College, an NJCAA team in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Saturday (Sept. 23) and Union College, an NCAA squad based in Schenectady, N.Y., on Sunday.
