MONTREAL -- The top-seeded McGill University Martlets will be chasing their 14th provincial hockey title when the RSEQ league championship series opens Thursday (March 2) against third-seed Concordia.

The best-of-three affair begins with a 7 p.m. puck drop at McConnell Arena, located at 3883 University Avenue, just north of Percival Molson Stadium. Tickets can be purchased online and are $10 for general admission and $5 for student, seniors and McGill staff.  Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Ed Meagher Arena, 7200 Sherbrooke Street West. If a deciding game is needed, it is slated for McConnell Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Martlets own a 79-39-3 in 121 lifetime meetings with the Stingers -- including a 40-15-2 mark at home -- since women's hockey became formally sanctioned with a national championship in 1997. In playoffs, McGill is 10-8-0 in 18 post-season match-ups against the Stingers.

This season McGill triumphed in four of five meetings, all of them low-scoring affairs. The Martlets won 2-1 on Oct. 23, 2-1 on Nov. 19, 3-1 on Dec. 3, then lost 3-1 at Concordia on Jan. 21 and won 2-1 on Feb. 18. McGill had a 10-7 edge in goals, while the Stingers held a 123-119 advantage in shots. Concordia was 2-for 21 (9.5%) on the power-play in head-to-head meetings against McGill, which went only 1-for-21 (4.8%) with the extra attacker.

Over the regular season, McGill owned the conference's best power-play, operating at 18.4 per cent and Concordia had the league's most efficient penalty-kill at 88.7 per cent.

The rivals will be crossing paths in the Quebec conference final for the sixth time since 1999, with Concordia winning the previous five (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005).

Since 2005, when the Stingers took the Dr. Ed Enos Cup, the teams have met in the semifinals four times, with McGill winning each series -- in 2007, 2008,  2009 and 2014.
