COTE ST. LUC, Que --
Sam Groleau hit a two-run homer to cap an unbelievable rally as McGill erased an early six-run deficit to clobber Concordia 11-7 in Game 1 of the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association Northern Divisional best-of-three final series at Gary Carter Field, Monday.
It was the largest come-from-behind victory in McGill history. The Stingers grabbed a 6-0 lead in the top of the first but McGill roared back with five in the third inning. The Redmen never looked back after the fourth when
Sasha Lagarde singled to centre, setting the table for Groleau's homer to left. McGill added four more in the fifth before Concordia could stop the bleeding.
Jack Pantalena collected the victory in relief of starter
Rocky Hroch. He pitched two shutout innings, allowed no hits, struck out four and walked three.
Sam Belisle-Speinger started for Concordia and gave way to
Matthew Adams-Whitaker, who was charged with the loss.
Game 2 of the doubleheader follows immediately.
