MONTREAL -- Defenceman Adrienne Crampton of Ottawa, snapped a 1-1 tie with 2:13 remaining as No.1 ranked McGill escaped with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over visiting Concordia at McConnell Arena, Sunday.

The result extended McGill's win streak to 41 consecutive victories over CIS opponents (20-0 this season) and ensured that the Martlets dominance over their cross-town rivals improved to 53 straight victories, dating back to a 2-1 road loss at Concordia on Feb. 5, 2006.

It was only the second goal of the season for Crampton, a 21-year-old science senior majoring in kinesiology. who only has six goals in 132 career contests overall with the Martlets.

The fourth-place Stingers (4-11-0) were outshot 43-13, including a 20-1 margin in the middle stanza but McGill ran into a hot goaltender in Carolanne Lavoie-Pilon who made 40 saves in a losing cause.

"Lavoie-Pilon  played well but we also missed a lot of shots tonight and only played hard for the last two periods," said McGill head coach Peter Smith. "It was a character win but we all agreed when the game was over that we could've been much better in the first period."

Concordia opened the scoring late in the first when Jaymee Shell, a senior from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., struck paydirt at 19:26.

Concordia had less that half a minute to enjoy their moment of glory as sniper Gabrielle Davidson, the nation's leading marksman, connected for the equalizer with her 21st of the season at 19:51. Rearguard Michelle Daigmeault, collected her first of two assists on the day, set up the goal along with Katia Clement-Heydra.

Goaltenders Andrea Weckman and Lavoie-Pilon took over the game after that flurry and played kitty-bar-the-door until the dying moments when Crampton found a kink in the armor of Lavoie-Pilon. She scored the winner on a power-play, converting a pass from Daigneault..

Before the Stingers could coordinate a plan to pul their netminder for an extra attacker, their plans were scuttled when Mary-Jane Roper was penalized for holding at 19:18. Some 25 seconds later, Stefanie Pohlod potted an insurance marker for McGill at 19:43. It was Pohlod's sixth of the seson and her third in the past five games.

Weckman, a fifth-year senior, made a dozen saves to collect the win, improving to 9-0 this season and 24-0 lifetime in 26 regular season appearances.

McGill's two late power-play goals salvaged the soiree after they had failed to click on the first four chances earlier in the game. The Martlets ended up 2-for-6 and erased both shorthanded situations, including a two-man disadvantage for 36 seconds with only six minutes remaining in a 1-1 game.

McGill, which has a lifetime mark of 64-36-3 against Concordia since CIS play began in 1997, will hook up again with Concordia  at the Loyola campus on Feb. 1 at 2 :30 p.m.
