Martlet Hockey vs. Carleton (Away)

Won 7-1 at Carleton

OTTAWA - Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno, Que., scored six points, including three goals and linemateMélodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., added five points as the No.1-ranked McGill University women's hockey team routed Carleton 7-1 at the Ice Palace, Saturday.

The game was halted for about 20 minutes with 13:36 remaining in the final period and McGill leading 5-1, after Ravens rookie rearguard Julianne Bruce of Dartmouth, N.S., accidently tripped and went head-first into the boards behind the Carleton net. She lay motionless for a considerable period and both teams were eventually dispatched to their respective dressing rooms until she was sent to hospital in an ambulance.  Carleton head coach Shelley Coolidge later confirmed that her player suffered a sprained neck and concussion.

The win extended McGill's record to 12-0 against CIS opponents overall and marked the third straight outing that the Martlets had tallied at least seven goals in a game as the team improved their lifetime record against the Ravens to 67-1-1.

McGill, which had a 38-15 edge in shots, led 2-0 after the opening period and 5-1 after two.

"We didn't have a great start as there was not a lot of flow in the first period," said Peter Smith, head coach of the Martlets. "We were much improved in the second period and things got better in the third, where we controlled the play. But I'd prefer to see us get better from the drop of the puck in the first period."

Clement-Heydra's first marker put the Martlets ahead 3-1 at 5:58 of the second stanza and she netted the last two goals of the contest, during the first 10 minutes of the final period. It was her third career hat-trick and all have been on the road.

"Katia played real well and got a lot of pucks to the net," said Smith. "She had a much better shot mentality today than she's had in recent weeks."

Daoust struck twice and collected three helpers to take over the CIS national scoring lead with a 12-19-31 record in only 10 games. She moved four points ahead of teammate Leslie Oles (15-12-27), who was scratched from the lineup after suffering an undisclosed injury in the team's last game.

Rounding out the scoring for McGill was forward Kim Ton-That of Beaconsfield, Que., and defenceman Brittney Fouracres, a Calgary native who was credited with the game-winner and an assist. Alexandra Yallouz netted the lone Ravens' marker, narrowing the gap to 2-1 at 4:16 of the middle period.

Goaltender Andrea Weckman, a senior from Kitchener, Ont., made her third start of the regular season. She saved 14 of 15 shots while improving her record to 3-0 and 16-7-2 lifetime in 34 career appearances.Tamber Tisdale of Red Deer, Alta., made 31 saves for the Ravens and dropped to 1-4 on the season.

McGill, which leads the RSEQ with a 10-0 record, will host the third-place Ravens (3-6-1) at McConnell Arena on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
