MONTREAL - Six different players scored and goaltender
Charline Labonte registered her 56th career
shutout as No.1-ranked McGill blanked the visiting Saint Mary's
Huskies 6-0 in women's non-conference hockey action at McConnell
Arena, Saturday.
Freshman scoring sensation Katia Clement-Heydra
scored once and added a pair of helpers to pace the Martlets.
Senior Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., added
three assists.
Labonte, a physical education senior from Boisbriand, Que.,
kicked aside 16 shots to register the goose-egg and improve
her overall career record in a McGill jersey to 110-9-3 in 122
contests.
After a scoreless opening period, the Martlets exploded for four
in less than eight minutes during the middle stanza and added a
pair in the final period. McGill dominated the shot clock, with a
58-16 advantage, including a lopsided 28-4 margin in the second
period.
Jordanna Peroff of Keswick, Ont., was credited
with the game-winner at 11:34 of the second. Rounding out the
scoring for McGill was Carly Hill, a senior from
Dorval, Que., defenceman Cathy Chartrand of Lac
Nominingue, Que., sophomore Kim Ton-That of
Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., and Darragh Hamilton, a
sophomore from Ormstown, Que.
Jillian MacIsaac, the besieged Huskies goalie
from Timberlea, N.S., registered 52 saves in a losing cause.
McGill, which improved to 9-0 against CIS opponents and 6-0 in
QUHL action, resumes regular season action on Sunday afternoon
against the Gee-Gees (3-4) in Ottawa.
