MONTREAL - Sophomore Kim Ton-That of
Beaconsfield, Que., scored with less than three minutes remaining
to force overtime and No.1-ranked McGill then added a pair of
markers in a post-overtime shootout to salvage a 4-3 victory over
the Montreal Carabins in women's university hockey at McConnell
Arena, Saturday. In the process, McGill extended their streak to 87
consecutive wins against QUHL opponents, including a 10-0 lifetime
mark against the Carabins.

Freshman Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno de
Montarville, Que., and veteran rearguard Carly
Hill of Dorval, Que., each tallied in the shootout which
McGill won 2-0,

Montreal led 1-0 after the first period and the teams were
deadlocked at 2-2 after two and 3-3 after three. Alyssa Cecere, a senior from Brossard, Que., and veteran
Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., also
connected for the Martlets who had a lopsided 44-11 advantage in
shots on net.

Rookie Cassandra Dupuis of Sherbrooke, Que.,
netted all three markers for the Carabins, including one that gave
the visitors a 3-2 lead with 4:49 remaining in regulation. But she
did not get the call to go in the shootout, where netminder
Charline Labonte stoned all four Carabins she
faced. Labonte, who was playing despite feeling under the weather,
registered only eight saves for the win, improving to 4-0 on the
season. Carabins netminder Katrina Giuliani, a
junior from Chateauguay, Que., made 40 saves in a losing cause and
her record dipped to 1-4.

"We played well in the first period but got away from our game
plan," said McGill head coach Peter Smith. "We
didn't work as well as a team, were a little too exuberant at times
and got caught out of position a number of times. We were working
hard but not smart. The Carabins only had 11 shots and four scoring
opportunities but they scored each time. A game like that is good
for us, however, It was a character-building win."

McGill, which improved to 6-0 in league play and 8-0 versus CIS
opponents, will host Saint Mary's (4-9 overall) in non-conference
play next week.  The Huskies will be playing three games in
Montreal, meeting the Carabins on Nov. 19 (7 pm), the Martlets on
Nov. 20 (3 p.m.) and the Concordia Stingers on Nov. 21 (2
p.m.).
