MONTREAL – Gabriela Hebert of Chicoutimi, Que., is the McGill University female athlete of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Mar. 15, 2015. There was no male nominee.

Hebert, a 5-foot-8 forward with the basketball Martlets, scored a team-leading 34 points and pulled down 29 rebounds in three games to earn all-tournament honours at the CIS women's basketball championship in Quebec City last weekend, where third-seeded McGill claimed silver, their best-ever finish at the Nationals. The third-seeded Martlets defeated No.6 Saint Mary's 67-59, then upset No.2 UBC 59-57 in overtime to reach the gold medal contest, a 60-47 loss to top-seeded Windsor.

The 24-year-old industrial relations senior shot 33.3 per cent from the field (12/36) and 23.1  from three-point range (3-for-13). She sunk an impressive 87.5 per cent from the free-throw line (7-for-8) and was also credited with four assists and a steal.

Prior to enrolling at McGill, Hebert starred for College Ste. Foy in the Quebec CEGEP league.
