Jerry Herbert Anderson was born on Feb. 23, 1932 in Hastings, Nebraska. An NCAA All-American diver at the U.S. Naval Academy before transferring to McGill where he graduated from medical school with a M.D.C.M. in 1958.
At McGill, he excelled in swimming and diving, in addition to varsity football, gymnastics and track. Anderson competed at a number of USA national open championships and was a four-time Canadian intercollegiate diving champion, going undefeated from 1954 to 1958. In 1955-56, he was the Ontario-Quebec intercollegiate tumbling champion, won the McGill Intramural trophy and the Forbes trophy as McGill's male athlete of the year.
He competed at numerous Canadian open diving championships, winning gold on the 3-metre platform in 1957, the 10-metre board in 1960 and the 10-metres again in 1963. After graduating from McGill, he interned in Puerto Rico and represented that country at the 1959 PanAm Games, the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the 1967 PanAm Games in Winnipeg, the 1968 Mexico Olympics and the 1972 Munich Olympics, where he coached.
The retired neurologist currently lives in Hollywood, Florida.
