Bob Murray was inducted posthumously to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
Robert D. Murray as born on May 16, 1914 in Montreal and graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Arts in 1935, followed by a law degree in 1938.
He led McGill to three Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union tennis championships in six seasons (1934, 1935, 1936), serving as team captain in 1934-35.
A four-time winner of the intercollegiate singles & doubles titles from 1934 to 1937, Murray also won the Quebec senior singles title in 1934 and 1937. He was the No.1-ranked player in Canada in 1937 and was named as the most outstanding Canadian tennis player that year.
Murray was the first Canadian to win an international tournament (1935 Scottish championship) and was twice selected to play for Canada at Wimbledon (1935 and 1936).
He also represented Canada four times at the Bermuda championships (1934-37), reaching the finals twice. In 1937, he defeated the top three ranked US players in Bermuda before losing in the finals.
He played on the Canadian Davis Cup team versus Japan in 1938 and was inducted to the Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994.
